Is creativity "gendered"?
It has been really interesting this week to read the research work done by Lego and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media on whether creativity is gendered.
Having two children of my own (a boy and a girl) I've always tried to be aware of staying away from the stereotypes when encouraging them in their activities.
However, looking at myself this week, as my daughter took her first piano lesson and my son is busy coding Minecraft Mods, I do wonder if I'm falling into the same pattern as so many parents in terms of how we encourage our children to be creative. I think during the upcoming school holidays, I'll try to spend some time out of my own comfort zone encouraging all of us to try some new activities that we can explore, and challenge stereotypes that we may have.
